What were your duties at ATVN? :

Director, Anchor, reporter, technical director, camera operator

How did ATVN prepare you for your career?:

It gave me real experience for all the jobs in a news room. The industry trends in local news are leaning towards more one man bands...its important to know how to do it all.

The high energy and pressure of ATVN prepared me for the environment of a typical newsroom.

What is your advice to aspiring journalists?:

Don’t give up and make the viewer care about the story

What should graduates keep in mind when negotiating their first job?:

1- don’t expect to get paid a lot of money
2- look at your first job like grad-school and try to learn as much as you can.
3- you are not above any story/job/schedule. The first job is usually the hardest to get so take advantage. You also may end up changing focus so don’t be afraid of trying different things. Most markets will let you do that.
