Jennifer Denman

Class of 2002, Bachelor's



Jennifer Richardson joined the KEZI 9 News Team in January of 2012. She graduated from the Annenberg School of Communication at the University Of Southern California with a degree in Broadcast Journalism.

Jennifer got her start in Tucson, Arizona as an assignment editor at KOLD. She then moved on to Pittsburg, Kansas where she was a general assignment reporter for three and a half years at KOAM/KFJX.

Jennifer was then hired on at KOLR/KSFX in Springfield, Missouri as the weekend anchor and general assignment reporter where she remained for another three and a half years.

During her time in the Midwest she covered everything from murders and politics to features and most recently the aftermath of an EF5 tornado that hit Joplin.

Jennifer is married to KEZI 9 News’ Brian Richardson. They met while reporting together in Missouri. Brian and Jennifer welcomed their first child in Dec. 2013.

Jennifer grew up in California and they are happy to have found their way to this coast for a brand new adventure.

What were your duties at ATVN? :

Reporter



How did ATVN prepare you for your career?:

It gave me the hands on experience I needed to start in this business.
The equipment we used at ATVN is all the same equipment we use out in the field.
Its all about the basic and I definitely got it at ATVN.



What is your advice to aspiring journalists?:

Don’t give up! Take the applause and the criticism.
Have fun and don’t forget why you wanted to do this in the first place.



What should graduates keep in mind when negotiating their first job?:

They basically think we’ll work for free and they will offer you nothing. It never hurts to ask for more.
