Peter Daut

Class of 2006, Bachelor's

Peter Daut was the weekday co-anchor of Channel 9 Eyewitness News Daybreak from 4:30-7 a.m., Eyewitness News This Morning on TV 64 from 7-9 a.m., and Eyewitness News Midday at noon. He joined Eyewitness News in February 2012.

"As a journalist, each day is an opportunity to inform, meet new people and touch lives. I genuinely love telling stories, especially when they have the power to make a difference," Daut said.

Daut comes to the Queen City from Dallas, where he spent three years as a reporter/fill-in anchor at KDFW. During his time in North Texas, he won an Emmy Award for his report on the shooting massacre at Fort Hood. From tornadoes to massive wildfires to the sudden collapse of the Cowboys’ practice facility— he’s been on the scene of some compelling stories.

He also had the unique opportunity to cover the first Super Bowl in North Texas, the Rangers’ back-to-back appearances in the World Series and the Mavericks’ NBA Championship.

Prior to Dallas, Daut was the weekend anchor/investigative reporter at KFOX in El Paso. While on the border, he covered the escalating drug violence in Juarez, trained with the FBI and broke details on a major public-corruption scandal.  He’s been honored by both the Texas and New Mexico Associated Press for his investigative work. He also earned the School Bell Award from the Texas State Teachers Association for his series on cronyism in Texas public schools.

On the lighter side, he reported live from Hollywood for the finale of American Idol, and was the first person to interview Jordin Sparks after she won (by virtue of being at the right place at the right time!)

Daut began his career as a news writer at KABC in Los Angeles, not far from where he grew up in Orange County.

He graduated Cum Laude from the University of Southern California, with dual-degrees in Broadcast Journalism and Political Science. He also minored in Spanish.

In his spare time he likes to catch up on sleep, work out and explore the Carolinas!
