Carly Santiago

Class of 2013, Bachelor's

I'm currently writing this from the beautiful... RAINY, COLD city of Stamford, Connecticut aka a very Gilmore Girls-esque city 40 minutes outside of NYC because this past August I started as 1 of 4 new graduates for a new rotational program at NBC Sports. We spend 4 months in different production departments (features, studio, remote graphics, digital) and at the end they place you in the department you do well in/like. I think they are using a similar model of this at other networks like ESPN.
Anyways, my first rotation is in remote graphics which ironically, was my first rotation at ATVN. As a PR major, who would have thought my first full time job out of college would be creating graphics for sports on hockey and MMA? Although the job is different from the graphics position at ATVN, the foundation I had in graphics (what is a lower third vs. full screen vs. OTS, why are they important, etc) and ATVN in general, has given me so much more confidence than if I came into this job without it. Graphics isn't necessarily my calling, but you have to go through graphics if you want to be a producer over here. So all I have to say is hallelujah I somehow ended up in ATVN.
