It's The Little Things, Really

TAGS:

Annenberg TV News strives to produce professional shows. From making calls in the newsroom to reporting in the field to working the live show, our staff consistently represents ATVN in the best possible way.

That being said, what gets on the air is in the hands of the producers. And while some of the big problems seem overwhelming, it is the small things that make the biggest difference in the quality of our newscast.

Small edits and strong copy are essential to a high quality show. This week many of our scripts could have been improved for an even better show. This requires all of the producers working together to copy edit and rewrite scripts. Two, or in this case three, sets of eyes are always better than one. I know I personally struggled with rewriting a number of scripts as I was focused on completing many other tasks and communicating with a number of MJs at the same time.

However, pushing these little details to the side hurts our show in the end. Because our MJs and graphics teammates refer to the script when they edit or create a graphic, it is important for scripts to be accurate early in the day. An error in the script ends up trickling down to the video and other aspects of the broadcast.

It is my goal throughout the rest of the semester to not only improve my writing abilities, but also to pay more attention to all scripts in our show. Doing so will only improve the quality of ATVN newscasts.
