All Eyes On Your Words
Early Wednesday morning, I was determined to improve on my web performance from my first time at the position a few weeks ago. I wanted to get out more articles. Once the morning meeting finished, I was on the clock and ready to send out plenty of content. I got a quote from a student running the Veritas Forum talk on campus Wednesday night and my web producers were working away on their assigned stories. Throughout my morning, I was learning one lesson the hard way. Don’t sacrifice quality for quantity.
In my effort to get out as many stories as possible, I found myself skimming the articles instead of actually reading them to copy edit and fact check the material. As an anchor and producer this semester at ATVN, I know that we want to promote the ATVN brand. I have been promoting that brand since I stepped foot in the newsroom freshman year. People like to have a trusted source, as I’ve learned from my classes. Readers care about the accuracy and precision of the news sources they read. And we want to attract readers and viewers through our web content. So, by having comprehensive and accurate local stories, we will be a more trusted source in the community. I will strive to improve upon this mistake in the coming weeks.
