We can still make it!
Now that we have the option of a live shot, I feel like a new world of possibilities has opened up to me. Usually when I look over the City News Budget around 4:30pm is when I stop looking at events that we can cover because there is no realistic way for us to shoot the event and then get back to the newsroom in time to edit it and get it on air. This week when I saw a Libyan protest on the budget at 5p.m. I was excited. The news day doesn’t end so abruptly for us anymore; stories can develop and news can break and we can still have a reporter on air in minutes. I know that live shots can be used to show the viewer something and really add depth to a story, but for me, it adds more time to my news day and more possibilities of events to cover. So now, rather than pouting that an event starts too late, I am hoping that it keeps going on well into the 6p.m. hour.
