Who’s number one?

The biggest story of my day really determines how I order my stories. I ideally would like to have a systematic layout of where to place my local, national and campus stories. I try to put stories and packages we shoot ourselves high up in the show, but if our biggest local story is on a news conference when there is breaking news of Japan’s earthquake, the order becomes ridiculously obvious. After such a giant national news story I would try and follow up with another big national story and then try to gradually localize it back to Los Angeles. However sometimes my story list gets random when stories that would of perfectly gone well together get killed do to lack of a developing story or self generated content. When organizing local stories I usually go by what is closest to our audience then spread out from there. One of the funniest parts of the rundown is the kicker, because no matter where the story happened, it always has its spot.
