Achieving My Goals
Midway through the semester I set three main goals for myself: to be tolerant, to focus and to stay creative.
Intolerance is definitely one of my greatest personal flaws. I have a hard time being empathetic and understanding when people don’t do what they are supposed to. As a producer though, there is no room for that. You are the leader of a team with an important, time-sensitive goal. Working together is crucial to achieving it.
My second goal was to stay focused. I’m so grateful that my teammates and I are such great friends. Despite the stress, we always manage to have a blast. When you’re on a time crunch though, having fun definitely gets in the way of productivity. I do think we’ve all found a healthy balance as the semester has progressed. We don’t take things too seriously but we always make sure to do our best.
Creativity is so important. As a producer you constantly have to be thinking how a viewer feels watching your newscast. With pressing deadlines it’s easy to just fill the rundown as quickly as possible, but you sacrifice making it an enjoyable experience for the audience. I’ve started putting different people at the Chroma key in each show and even tried coordinating a live guest. It didn’t work out, but I have hope for next week!
Wednesday will be my last shift as lead producer and I want to go out with a bang.
