End of the Road
While the rest of Team Monday is celebrating the success of their final show, I have two more to look forward to on Wednesday and Thursday! That being said, I can’t help but think back to the beginning of the semester and about how much I’ve grown as a producer.
The one thing I really wish I had known during my first show is that everything gets easier. It’s tough coming into a position and not really having any idea what to do and what to expect. What I’ve realized though is that each week things get easier and less stressful.
My advice for the ATVN producers of Spring 2013 is to develop a good camaraderie with your teammates! I’ve had the opportunity to work on three out of the four days this semester and one thing about Team Wednesday (my usual day-of-air shift) that really sticks out to me is how well we all get along. Even when things get tough and we get stressed out, we can easily recover because we all know what great friends we are the second we leave the newsroom.
I’ve learned that producing isn’t easy. To do this as a career you really have to have a deep love for news. You also need to be the type of person who deals well with stress and can take responsibility for others. While I don’t think I’ll be producing in my future career, taking J403 and working as an ATVN producer has taught me some incredible life lessons about teamwork and time management. I don’t think anybody who wants to work in news should skip out on producing – especially those of us who want to be reporters. Putting yourself in the producers’ shoes and understanding the difficulties of their jobs is crucial to being a good reporter.
