Staying Goal Oriented

Going into the final week of shows it is important that I reach the goals I made for myself halfway through the semester. I wanted to be more news driven, active in the morning meetings, have better package ideas and more organized as video teammate.

All my goals link together and once I accomplished one it helped me accomplish the next one. In order to reach these goals I became more of an active member in the morning meetings by voicing my opinions and viewpoints. Creating stronger package ideas helped me do this, because I was confident in the content I wanted to put in the newscast. The reason I was so confident in my content is because I was more news driven. I would watch a lot of news to be up to date on current events, and focused on hard news that is relevant and impactful.

Organization is key when you are playing the role of video teammate, and today was the last day that I took on that role. Today was yet again another day of breaking news from the DPS shooting to Dick Clark sadly passing away. Most of our MJs were out shooting and no one was available to edit and/or write.

Instead of panicking I simply used what I had and made the best of it. With the three MJs I did have I had two write and edit and one just edit. Michael only knows how to edit so I use that to my advantage and kept him busy. Also while copy editing the work of the others I would have them go lay down their b-roll or pick out their sound bite. At one point I jumped on the computers and edited teases and approved packages.

By being organized and specific in telling my MJs what to do, we were able to get a lot done before I left to the studio. Video teammate is all about organization, efficiency, patience and being solution oriented. These are characteristics that I will also have to utilize next week when I am lead producer.
