Plan B is a Must

TAGS:

Sudden changes always scare me. Most of the time I’m not prepared for them, but being a producer, you always have to expect sudden changes. Thankfully, there’s always a backup I prepare if something like a live shot does not fall through. That backup is simply a copy story that the anchor will read to the viewers. My teammate and I have yet used a backup for a live shot because all of our live shots so far have worked. If the live shot were to have not worked during the newscast, then I would have already prepared a “Plan B,” which is a copy story for the anchor to read. The copy story would be about the location where the reporter is.

Now that I have a month left to produce, I know what to do when a live shot does fall through. That “Plan B” can hold the entire newscast together and save it from looking ridiculous. It is always important to have another plan prepared if something before or during a newscast goes unexpected.
