Election Madness
I cannot believe Election Night has come and gone! I field produced from a Yes on 30, No on 32, Obama party Tuesday night in East Los Angeles and it was quite a thrill! It was my job to coordinate with the producers in the studio about when we were going live and what information my reporter would be sharing on air.
On top of coordinating with the other producers, I had the responsibilities of helping my reporter with her coverage, setting up on-air interviews, keeping my eyes on the wires and Twitter as numbers came in, and making sure our Skype video/audio was working properly.
I did not expect to know who the winner of the election was as early in the night as we did! The 500+ people who were at the party we covered were overjoyed when President Obama was re-elected, but remained nervous as the Prop 30 votes were counted and the yes and no votes remained virtually tied. We were able to get lots of great interviews and visuals of the crowd watching and reacting to the screens throughout the night.
Thursday I was lead producer of the show, and it was my responsibility to make sure we covered the election from fresh angles. We ended up having two packages on the election, each offering our viewers new information. The first was focused around a press conference about the increase of minority voters involved in this year's election. Our second package was about the continued amount of social media rolling out in response to Tuesday night. Both focused on new information and included public reaction. With so much election coverage this week, it was important to make sure we continued to offer our viewers the most up-to-date news and numbers.
It has been such an exciting week. The ATVN team pulled off great political coverage on election night and the days that followed. I'm so proud to be a part of such a hardworking team.
