Our First Live Shot

This week, we had our first live shot of the semester. Tuesday weather anchor Alexa Liacko was live from Conquest on campus in McCarthy Quad for our show. She gave viewers a preview of what the Rivalry Week pep rally/concert would include. The event was moments away from kicking off so we could see people arriving and getting ready for the night.

Since it was dark outside, we had lighting as an extra thing to worry about on top of tech issues and making sure we had smooth transitions between Alexa and our anchors, Kim and Joy. The live shot went off with out a hitch and I was so proud! It was framed nicely with a ferris wheel behind her and the audio and visual was near perfect. Having such an enthusiastic reporter in the field really added to the show.

Live shots are important to keeping the audience engaged throughout the newcast. They not only change up the format, but also allow us to show our audience what is going on that very moment where news is happening. My goal by the end of the semester is to have a live shot from off campus, and I know our team can pull it off!
