So You're Going to be a Producer...
Taking this producing class has been one of the best decisions of my college career. Producing for ATVN every week pushed me out of my comfort zone. This experience not only made me a better journalist, it made me a better person.
To the future J403 producers- This class is tough. There will be times when you are pushed to your breaking point, but also times when you want to cry tears of joy. As hard as 6 a.m. is, there is nothing more rewarding than 6 p.m. when the show goes on air.
This class will teach you to be accountable for your work. What you do here matters, so you have to give it your all and get it right. And I know, that seems like a lot of pressure, but you will get better and it is worth it when you cover stories that impact your viewers.
My biggest advice is to be open minded and commit yourself to giving your best effort every day. Trust your instincts. You will get to know your gut very well by the end of this.
The difference between a good newscast and a great newscast is a few extra calls in the morning, that extra time looking through the scripts in the afternoon, and always keeping an eye out for the latest breaking news.
