Producers

Teamwork Is Transferable

It's only our first week of live shows this semester and to add to the new experience of being a producer I also had to switch days this week, which meant working with a whole new team.

I was nervous about joining a new producing team for the week. Despite the fact that the semester has just begun it is definitely noticeable that our groups have already developed bonds.

However, I cannot say that I was surprised to find the same amount of support from Vanessa and Drennon today as I usually do from my Thursday teammates. My class is filled with passionate and determined people, and it is comforting to know that as a whole we have automatically created a support net for each other.

Working with Drennon and Vanessa was an easy transition. Although we experienced some bumps in the road, I feel as though we maintained strong communication throughout the day and into the broadcast. When items in the rundown changed we reminded each other of things that needed to be done, and when there was breaking news we alerted each other. There was a clear sense of collaboration in everything we did from pitching stories at the morning meeting to making sure we met the day's deadlines.

Since we are all still learning our roles as producers I realized the second most important thing after making sure your work is done is offering a helping hand to your fellow producers. I know I was grateful when things started to pile up that I could count on Vanessa and Drennon to help me stay on top of things.

The newscast is a product of every single volunteer and students' efforts, but at the end of the day it is the producers' job to hold to show together.
