Producers

Goals: Old and New

TAGS:

I’m happy that I have achieved some goals I set for myself at the beginning and middle of the semester. But, I still discover new elements I need to improve on as a producer every week. First, I need to improve on trusting my instincts. For example, yesterday I had a feeling a story would fall through, but I sent an MJ out to look into it anyway. In the end, the story was floated, and that MJ could have contributed much more to the show if I kept her writing and editing in the newsroom. I also still need to work on thinking ahead and being prepared.  For example, I should have talked to an MJ about clothing attire before sending her to a funeral.

I am pleased to say I have accomplished two goals I set for myself at the midterm.  I have noticed that I am better at making fast decisions.  Yesterday, for example, I could have used a series of SOTs in Madeline’s package or outside of it. At first I told Madeline it was up to her, but David reminded me that as lead producer it was my decision. And without hesitation, I knew that those SOTs would fit better in her package, and I was very happy with how the tone of her package turned out.  I have also met my goal of visualizing stories, as I feel I now have a better instinct for when a story should be a VSV, VOSOT, or copy than I did at the beginning of the semester.
