It's Not Over Till It's Over

TAGS:

I spend my Sunday nights doing homework and browsing news websites in search of compelling stories to pitch at the Monday meeting. I like The Daily Beast, becuase their cheat sheet gives me a little information on some the biggest stories going on at the moment. I'll go to NBC Los Angeles for a dose of local news and I usually check The Daily Trojan for USC related news I may have missed over the weekend. CNN and the New York Times are always good for some solid package ideas and twitter always knows what's up.

No matter how much research I do the night before, I always find that, come Monday morning, there is always something new going on. We always have a very full white board at the end of our 8am meeting. I have found that Monday is a good day to produce, since we have to catch up on the weekend. We never have a shortage of stories, and many of them end up getting floated by six o'clock.

While the producer's story pitches are always important and usually we end up packging at least two of them, I have realized that news almost always breaks during the day, many times in the afternoon. Breaking news is thrilling but also frustrating, as we find ourself reorganizing and sometimes abandoning stories that were in progress. In the news world, it's is not over till it's over. Or in ATVN's case, it's not over till 6:30.
