Practice Makes Perfect
Teases are quick and to the point, so they should be simple to write, right? Wrong! Teases are the absolute death of me. Today as lead producer, I sat and stared at the blank box in iNews, frustrated by my huge writer’s block. I’m not sure why, but teases cause me so much stress!
I think teases give me anxiety because of my general lack of confidence in my writing skills. I sometimes second-guess myself, which causes me to make silly mistakes and to be a little slow at producing content. Luckily, with the support of Kelly and Brad, our amazing Executive Producers, I never feel alone. Without fail, they constantly offer constructive feedback, a helping hand, and food delivery (just kidding, but thank you so much Kelly and Brad for the Panda Express and milkshakes today)!
As a goal for the remainder of the semester, I want to work on gaining confidence in my writing so I can effectively produce teases, OTS’s (Over the Shoulder) and general stories. I will achieve this goal by copyediting more work, helping multimedia journalists with their writing, and by practicing to write more in general. I can even volunteer to write some more stories whenever there is a slow moment in my producing shift. I am confident that the more I write, the better I will get. After all, everything comes with practice!
By the end of the semester I hope to be cranking out teases like no one has ever seen before!
