All Hands on Deck

Before I started my shift on Tuesday, Christen emailed me about the death of a former USC Song Girl. Christen wanted the story on the site as soon as possible due to the impact of the story on the USC community. I researched a little at home and worked on the story throughout the morning meeting. The only downside about working on the story during the meeting was that I had to catch-up with my producers about what the angle was for each story.
The majority of our web coverage on Tuesday was about Hurricane Sandy. I thought our story on the pop-up sales and Twitter response to the storm were interesting and relevant for the web. Our story on the former USC Song Girl who died in the hurricane received the most views on Facebook and Twitter, proving that USC students come to our site for campus related stories.
Graphics ran more smoothly this week and cutlines definitely came to mind easier. I also was more diligent about making sure the studio crew uploaded updated graphics.
I am really looking forward to covering the election next week!
