"The Buck Stops Here"

TAGS:

I'll admit it, I am a political junkie. I don't know what it is about politics, maybe it's the showmanship of campaigning, two individuals vying for your attention and your vote. Or perhaps it's the non-stop news-cycle and fiery remarks from on-air pundits. Whatever the reason may be, I have anxiously awaited this night for years.

I made sure to fulfill my civic duty bright and early before coming into the newsroom on Tuesday because I knew once I was at ATVN, I would not leave until our country picked the next President.

The election brought challenges to our newscast that we hadn't been faced with before. Everything from live shots to breaking news results to the polls were inputted into the rundown. My biggest challenge as video producer was finding the newest video on the candidates. Romney, Ryan, and Biden campaigned on election day, but Obama stayed in Chicago, so finding b-roll was tough. I did not want to use the same video more than once, which proved difficult due to the limited video provided by CNN of the candidates.

On top of all of this, we were also short MJs, so around 3 p.m. editing and writing stories became extremely hectic. Somehow, we managed to get all the stories written and videos edited before the show aired.

I arrived to the studio at 5:15, watched the run-throughs and kept a close eye on which states polls were closing in. My duty during the show was to update the election results. The show had some minor bumps, but overall I think Team Tuesday pulled through.
