Organization is Key
As web and graphics producer this week it was all about organization. In the morning as I was managing the web, I didn't have any journalists working for me as they were all sick so I produced all of the content and promoted the show by myself.
I started updating stories right away when I walked into the studio before our morning meeting and began taking notes on which stories would be interesting for the web, utilizing the web rundown in iNews.
During our morning meeting, I was able to see which items on the budget were going to get more coverage than others and I made sure to note this so I could write another web version of the story.
Since I have to hand over the web around 1 p.m., it was easy for the new web team arriving at that time to see what stories had been written and what there was left to do in the order of importance due to my organization in iNews.
Organization is so important for the web because since the material isn't tangible, it can be lost so easily. It led to better quality stories becuase the web team had more of an idea as to what each story was about.
It became evident on Tuesday that time management and organization are directly correlated because the more organized you are as a producer, the easier it is to handle your team and get stories up on the website in a timely fashion.
Once the stories I write are posted on the website, I have made it a habit to immediately Tweet and Facebook the link out-- another way organization and timeliness as a producer really helps promote ATVN.
I was so consumed in my job as web producer that it was a challenge to hand it off in the middle of the day, and I found myself checking back occassionally to make sure everything continued to run smoothly.
