Producers

It Only Gets Easier From Here

This week we had our first live shot. It was a bit rough around the edges, but it was a good start. Elisa, our lead producer, had a vision for our newscast and knew exactly what she wanted from our live shot.  She suggested we have a live shot of the Cadet Carnival taking place on Hoover.  While the live shot worked and was a good learning experience for all of us producers, there were elements of the coverage that we missed.

First, we didn’t have continuity throughout our live coverage of the carnival. The writing kept referencing the location of the carnival as if we hadn’t referenced it before. We should have made sure that the writing flowed and that new information was constantly being reported as the coverage was continuing.

Second, we really should have had the viewpoints of DPS and students. Are main audience is students and the carnival directly impacted them. Instead of having a community member for our soundbite we should’ve gotten a student. We need to make sure that when we send out our MJs they get lots of soundbites because we ended up only being able to choose from two. We also needed to get the other side of the story from DPS. They were the ones putting on the carnival and we needed to explain better why the carnival was happening and the benefits it created.
