Web/Graphics Finally

Working on my last day as web/graphics teammate I realized that I had learned a lot since first starting. The first thing I noticed was that I had developed a bit of a routine. As soon as I came into the newsroom I opened Inews and began putting in stories into the rundown. I assigned myself a story and assigned writers to the other stories before going off to class.

While working on my story I went on to the website to see what work needed to be done. I rearranged the weights on many of the stories that were up from the previous day. The task is a bit tedious but Bianca told me that she learned that you don’t have to use weights so hopefully in the future this task can be eliminated because it takes a decent amount of time.

When I came back from class I was a little surprised to see that there wasn’t much work done. I think it’s difficult when the web supervisor leaves without being able to brief the web team. It seemed that they were a little lost and confused because while I assigned them stories I wasn’t able to tell them exactly what I wanted. People need direction especially when they’re new or inexperienced. I think in the future I should write a few sentences in the notes section detailing exactly what I wanted out of the story. That way my web team would have a clear idea on how to write each story and would be more productive while I’m gone.
