Balancing Two Jobs
What do you do when the web producer that takes over for you is unable to make their shift? On my day-of-air shift I didn’t have anyone to hand off the web duties to until later than usual. This set me back with graphics, and I really had to multi-task more than ever to perform both jobs. It was a challenge trying to remember all of my duties for web, as well as for graphics.
I would say to get everything accomplished, you really have to find a balance between the two. A tip that helps me when I am web and graphics producer is to start ordering graphics while you are still working on the web. Your art director comes in, and they need graphics to work on. It isn't easy to balance everything -- especially when people are asking you questions about the website and you still have your own assignments to turn in. At the end of the day, ordering graphics early can be a really big help to you and your art department.
For me, unfortunately I was barely able to start ordering graphics early because it wasn’t until an hour later than usual when I could take my focus off of the web. I know I tried to take my own advice and order several graphics early, but that still wasn’t enough. It seemed by the end of the day, that there were still a lot of graphics that needed to be done, which was scary. Thankfully, they were all finished by the time we went on air.
