Cue your Reporter!

Live shots can make your newscast much more exciting.

Although we didn’t have a live shot on Tuesday’s newscast, I feel that if we did have one it could have definitely added to our show.

As lead producer this week, I would have chosen the Justice for Trayvon Martin Rally led by a Carson City Councilman, for a live shot.

Since, the event started at five p.m. there would have been enough time for our reporter to get b-roll of the rally and a few interviews to make a vo-sot, on top of the live shot. The rally could have really added to the Trayvon Martin story we already had in our newscast – there was enhanced surveillance footage of George Zimmerman that was released on Tuesday.

The video reveals a large gash on the back of Zimmerman’s head, the neighborhood watch who claims to have shot 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in self-defense.

Even though we were unable to get a live shot, we did have one of our reporters on the chroma key for the first time, which was really great.

Great job Team Tuesday, especially Julia Deng, our reporter who was on the chroma key. Hopefully we will be able to add a live shot to our newscast for the first time next week!
