Which Stories are we Going to Cover?
As the web producer for Tuesday’s show I am responsible for creating the entire web rundown for my day.
I think that having great news judgment and knowing what stories to cover are two very important qualities a news producer can have. I think that when producers decide on stories they should definitely know who their targeted audience is. For example, USC students primarily watch ATVN so, for the web rundown I covered a lot of stories that I thought would be of interest to students here on campus.
On my day, some of the stories I decided to cover were more local stories for example, the Dodgers opening day and a black bear roaming around a nearby neighborhood.
Another story I chose to cover was TOMS “One Day Without Shoes” event because I know that a lot of students wear TOMS shoes. I also chose to do a story on a study that was released on Tuesday about nail polishes in salons that contain dangerous chemicals because I know a lot of students get manicures and pedicures.
I think that as a producer the stories that you cover in your newscast, no matter what form of media it is, should definitely focus on the demographic that you’re targeting.
