Float It!

TAGS:

Wow, that was one crazy day!  I began my day searching the wires for any video I could give to our helpful workers in the morning before class.  All the daily work wasn't too overwhelming until around 3 p.m. when it seemed like I was getting pulled in about 50 different directions at the same time!  From checking video, finishing teases, and figuring out blank outcues, I had my work cut out for me.  But the real fun didn't start until we got to the studio.  Cue the fireworks in anticipation.

So my fellow producing teammates, the famous Ashley twins (and you thought the Olsen's were a big deal?), and I have made it flawlessly through the A block of our first news show.  Run throughs prepared us well for the A block, so it was a huge relief to get through it without a major scare.  But halfway through the B block, John Goldsmith noticed that the graphic for the stock market was put in the right channel, so we as producers made the a decision about 5 seconds before the story was about to take place and yelled, "FLOAT IT!"  What happened after could have been utter chaos.  The story switched to the new efforts to  build an NFL stadium in Los Angeles, but the stock market graphics remained and we had completely (accidentally more than anything) floated back-to-back stories.  Luckily, our anchors saved us by being able to roll with all the punches and just stuck to the teleprompter, making our mistakes only slightly noticeable instead of a colossal collapse!

In the end, our day went great and the news show came out better than I expected for a first show.  We made our starting block for shows, now they only go up from here!
