McCourt Mixup

TAGS:

Breaking news has caused havoc for our news shows in the past.  So when I heard around 5 p.m. that Frank McCourt, the owner of the Dodgers, had fired his estranged wife, Jamie McCourt, I knew my work was not over.  Instead of running over to the studio for rehearsals, I had to rewrite the entire top of the show, the welcome, and move down the new NFL stadium bill being signed to lead off our newscast with the McCourt family.  I was nervous and my brain seemed to shut down for a while when trying to think up clever ways to write the lead story, but my teammates helped me through it.  For the first time during the semester, my teammates and I did not have class during the morning session, so I was able to work side-by-side with them all day.  I personally believe that if they would have been in class until noon like usual, we wouldn't have been ready for our newscast by 5 p.m., making it way too chaotic for us to switch around the top of the show to get that breaking news element!  My teammates (the Ashley's) and I kept communicating throughout the day and it showed through how prepared we ended up being in the end.  We even ended our news show with some great kickers, followed by all for of our anchors simultaneously breaking into the Michael Jackson "Thrilla" dance for the great ending.  News shows are supposed to get better and better throughout the semester.  Let's hope that the progress we have made the last three week in becoming comfortable with all the different positions keeps rolling forward.
