Wait.....He's Not Dead?

TAGS:

Yesterday was one of those days where we definitely weren't short on news.  Our main story of the day was the massacre at Fort Hood, but the information kept changing constantly.  At first, the wires were suggesting that the shooter was someone who was dressed in army attire but may not have actually been in the army, just using the clothes as a cover to get inside the base.  Then, for a solid four and a half hours, every news station reported that the shooter was dead as they looked for a motive as to why he may have done this.  So we went into the show that took so much hard work thinking the shooter was dead, only to find out by a breaking news wire update halfway through the show that the shooter was still alive and in stable condition!  Cue the panic horn.  We had to rush to get this new information to the viewer before the end of the  B block because it was too valuable to leave until after the commercial break.  We got it in and Rachel, our Thursday anchor, read through it perfectly and chaos was avoided.  It looked worse in person than it was watching it over on the news.  Rushing to get more news in during an action-packed news show is difficult.  Overall, I think it was a solid experience, but one I don't want to relive anytime soon!
