Teamwork on Team Thursday

Are the teases written? Is all the video in the A block ready? Are all the MJs working? There are so many different things to think about as a producer, but working as a team helps the show get on air. Team Thursday definitely could not function without teamwork.

The key to ATVN teamwork is communication. As the web and social media producer this week, I wasn’t as stressed or busy as I was when I was lead producer last week. Having a little extra time allowed me to help out the lead, video and graphics producer. I learned that to work effectively as a producing team, I need to make sure I communicate well with my team. At about 5:45 pm, Kaitlin told me that the first preshow video wasn’t playing. I quickly went to the edit bay and talked to the tech master, Tom. I created a new placeholder in the rundown and had Tom resend the video. Then, Kaitlin told me that the video was working, so I shouldn’t have resent it. If I had taken an extra second to clarify what Kaitlin wanted, instead of assuming that I should resend the video, this wouldn’t have happened. Thankfully, the new video sent in time before our 6 pm show, but it was really a close call. We were worried that the video wouldn't make it online in time before our show at 6 pm. Even though I thought I was being a good team player, I learned that I should take the extra time to fully understand what my fellow producers need from me.

Teamwork is not only essential as a producing team, but also as a media center team. It’s important that the MJs know what they’re supposed to be doing and that they’re actually doing it. This week I noticed one MJ trying to avoid doing anything, so I made sure to assign him multiple projects. Even though I wasn’t the video producer, who is in charge of MJs, I tried to help out my team by keeping up with the MJs.

I'm excited to work as the graphics producer next week. I'm going to make an effort to know what my producers are doing and what they need from me so I can be the best team player possible.
