Just Keep Swimming
Last night's show was awesome!
The theme of the night was live; we had a live stand-up, a live interview, and a live in-studio performance by the USC Marching Band! Ending with the live music felt very TODAY Show-ish... and I loved it!
It was exciting to add all of the these new elements to the show, and if you had told me a month ago that we would be trying all of this, I probably would have been terrified. There were also aspects of the show that definitely could have gone smoother, but each week is a learning lesson. My fellow producers and I have tried to really learn from the past week's mistakes, and I think yesterday was the first time all of our hard work finally came together.
With that being said, there is always room for improvement. What I learned yesterday is that we totally have the capabilities to go above and beyond a typical, routine newscast, and that if we have the confidence in ourselves, we can impress our viewers with elements they have never seen from ATVN before.
Moving forward, I want to have as many live guests and interviews as possible. Of course, I want them to be relevant to the newscast, but I think a live Q & A with someone following a story can really perk up a show. I also want to incorporate a live debate into a newscast, so I will be looking for stories that have two defined sides, and hopefully find opinionated representatives to come onto the set. And, as I found out yesterday, live music is very entertaining, so I think adding that whenever appropriate will entice viewers to stay tuned.
I have completely changed the way I watch the news. I am constantly observing different networks, trying to grab as many ideas for our own show as possible. I want the viewers to enjoy watching the show, and I know if we just keep pushing ourselves a little bit more each week, we are going to continuously produce beautiful broadcasts.
