Halfway There
"Whoa... We're halfway there! Whoa... Time to make art, not just air!"
I promise those were Bon Jovi's exact words.
Now, anyone in the news television industry knows that this is not a realistic view of how a newsroom functions. Things come up, the business changes and everything goes up in a chaotic ball of smoke.
But we should know how to handle that now. It's controlled chaos; it should be practically routine.
So now it's time for us to dare to be bold--to do things that haven't been done.
We have the ability to do all kinds of cool things: live shots, flashcam shots, in-studio guests, smart-board technology. The list goes on.
We know how to do all the basic stuff now. But it's time to take it to the next level.
Often times, we don't try these things because we're afraid of failure. We're afraid it won't work, something will go wrong, or it just won't look the way we want it to. But we'll never know till we try.
Not risking enough is sometimes more dangerous than risking too much.
This is the time you can define yourself as a producer. Everyone has his or her own style--it's time to showcase your own.
So this second half, put a unique spin on your show. It's time to make art.
After all, Bon Jovi said so.
