Leave A Lasting Impression

Every week it is our mission to make our newscast the best it can be. This week's show is a great example of how working together and being creative in our coverage made our newscast more interesting, informative and memorable.

Reason #1: Not only did we cover international breaking news... we found a way to localize it. The Paris attacks took up a big chunk in our newscast. We included new and breaking information about the suspects. Then we took a step further to talk about the vigils happening in Los Angeles for the victims.

Reason #2: We had a live shot at City Hall!!! This was our first live shot off campus. A vigil happened at the start of our show so we knew there was no way of getting footage back to make a SOTVO in time. So we tossed to a reporter there to talk about what was happening. This was great because we were able to show our audience what was going on right at that moment.

Reason #3: A reporter did a live intro at the video wall to introduce his package. Our reporter spent most of his day at a rally and felt very passionate about this story he was covering. By having him introduce the story, you could feel his passion and it made the story more compelling to watch.

Reason #4: A guest came on our show and did a live interview. Since we didn’t have any broll for this story, it was best to do an in-studio live interview and ask the guest questions to further her story.

Reason #5: We had our anchors move around during the show. The anchors each had a chance to introduce a story at the monitor. This not only added movement to the show, but it also helped tell a story that didn’t have a lot of broll.

Reason #6: We were always updating and revising stories to make sure our copy had the latest information (even at the last minute!). This helped our newscast be the most informative it could be.

This week we all worked together smoothly and had great communication. Everyone knew what was expected of them and understood what we wanted for our stories. Be adding these elements to our newscast, our show was more interesting, informative and memorable. Great week team Tuesday. Let's make our last show the best yet!
