You Must Be Social

TAGS:

Twitter is a powerful component of news coverage in today’s media. It has transformed the way viewers receive their information regarding news and current events.  In our daily coverage of news, I strive to use Twitter to tease the audience of what is to come on the upcoming show, as well as report on developing information on major stories of the day. I personally feel Twitter is most effective when covering a live event.

As a producer I make it a priority to tell reporters to send out tweets whenever they go and shoot for a live event. Not all of our viewers have access to the network throughout the day, so it is naturally our duty to provide them the information that they should receive. Constant updates are essential in journalism. What differentiates this medium from others is the consistent and constant access to information.

I believe that we do a fairly good job in using social media to report. We understand that if the USC student body is part of our target audience, we have to cater to them in some capacity. Not all students have the access and luxury to watch a thirty-minute newscast, but most do use the Internet and social media. Therefore we must do the same.
