Using the Board...and NewsMap
After getting two consecutive weeks of producing under my belt, I've developed a love-hate relationship with the job. The love part of the equation is easy. This job happens entirely in real-time; you know if you've done well or poorly almost immediately. The constant feedback makes it easy to make adjustments and to stay excited about the work that you are doing. What starts as nothing but REM sleep at 5:45 a.m. gets up at 6 and magically undergoes a metamorphosis into a global digest by 7 p.m. It's inspiring, it's empowering, and it makes you feel like you're more in touch with the world than everybody else.
The hate part of the job comes from organization. There are far too many tasks for the regularly sane individual to handle on a daily basis. Over the past two weeks I've been hunting for the best way to organize — and yesterday, I think I made some serious progress. After juggling a laptop, an iPad, a word document on my ATVN desktop and two seperate whiteboards, I was more confused and in need of a central location to visualize my progress. So I grabbed an Expo marker and began to organize on the big whiteboard. From there, I created an impromptu coding system that told me exactly where each story was in it's development. It was all visual and I could see it from anywhere in the room. I'll be re-using this system. On top of that I've been using NewsMap, which is an awesome service for keeping track of the day's top stories. I highly recommend it for people who need to see all of the day's news, and it helped me stay organized for yesterday's show.

Nice post about Using the Board...and NewsMap | ATVN. I am very impressed with the time and effort you have put into writing this story. I will give you a link on my social media blog. All the best!
