The importance of variety
It is very important on any news website or news show to maintain variety in your broadcast.
The logic behind this is that the more variety in your stories, the more viewers with diverse interests will be attracted to your page.
As I look back at today, I think the thing I notice the most is how well we achieved variety on our home page.
We had a few big national stories, like the GM story and the barefoot bandit story.
We also had a huge local story, on the UC budget cuts. We also had other local stories.
Finally, we had a more fun feature story on a local community event.
In a dream world, I would have many web producers each assigned a different beat so we could have tons of variety on our show. But for having only four people a day, I think we do a really good job.
