Double Duty
Being the web/graphics teammate can be one of the most exciting positions. Not only do you get to interact with our followers on Facebook and Twitter, but you get to work on the newscast as well.
One of the best parts about this position is being able to see the website and the newscast collide. When starting out the day, the producers send out reporters and MJs to specific stories, and I assign an MJ to write a corresponding story for the web.
At the beginning of the day, the story is mainly just text and a photo. However, throughout the day, we get to update the story with what the reporters are using for the newscast. As soon as we have the sound and video we need, we update our stories with photos the reporter has tweeted from their account. We also use video and sound from the people involved in our story to feature on the website.
At 1 p.m., I switch gears and begin to work for the newscast. Writing stories for the web and tweeting can be fun, but I must admit that I love being able to use my creative side to help create graphics.
The fact that I get to work on both the newscast and the website is exciting. I love being able to do a little bit of everything, and with the web/graphics teammate position, I can do just that.
