Bio: Think of me as the Goldsmith of ARN. Got a question about Adobe Audition or the radio booth mixing console? I’m your man. I graduated from USC four years ago, where I majored in Cinema and minored in Music Recording, and have been a part of USC Annenberg’s Multimedia Production team for two years. Outside of USC, I’ve been a freelance Avid Assistant Editor, and have been a student intern at Lucasfilm’s Industrial Light + Magic and Illingworth & Rodkin Acoustics in my hometown of Petaluma, CA. In addition to Annenberg Radio News, I help support ATVN, Impact, the Digital Lab and other technical operations at the Annenberg School, and I also do work for USC Recreational Sports as webmaster for the USC Song Girls, Spirit Leaders, Traveler, and the Tommy Trojan mascot. To top that, I am starting the Communication Management masters program here at USC Annenberg.
ATVN positions and duties: Avid Editor
How did ATVN prepare you for your current job?
Well… I’m kinda working at Annenberg now, helping the brand-new Annenberg RADIO News show, so I guess the answer’s well… kind of obvious. Ha ha ha. Seriously, though, my time as a student in ATVN prepared me very well for the fast-paced and systematic world of broadcast news editing, and part of my job at USC Annenberg is to teach those techniques to current Journalism students. While an undergraduate student at the USC Cinema School, I already had a lot of experience with digital non-linear editing when I first came to ATVN my senior year. However, I had no idea that editing for broadcast news is quite different than editing for episodic television or feature films. Fulfilling ATVN’s pressing deadlines taught me a lot about how to be quick and on-the-trigger with an Avid. It was an awesome experience and I recommend that EVERY USC student who is passionate about digital non-linear editing (whether you’re a film major, journalism major, or kinesiology major) take a shot at an ATVN editing shift. You’ll be a hero!
