Bio: Danielle Leigh joins KIDK’s news team as a reporter. She comes to KIDK from Los Angeles, California.
Danielle graduated from the University of Southern California’s
Annenberg School of Journalism in 2006. There, she got her start
reporting and producing for her school’s nightly news program.
During her college years, Danielle also interned at KEYT in Santa
Barbara, CA, where she got her first taste of reporting and producing
in a professional market.
Danielle realized she wanted a career in journalism back in high
school when her mom forced her to give her school’s journalism program
a try. Little did she know, she’d fall in love with it and be thanking
her mom ever since.
A Southern California native, Danielle loves surfing, wake boarding
and anything that involves the sun.
If you’re wondering what she’s doing in Idaho, she loves to snowboard too.
In her spare time, Danielle enjoys visiting with friends and family,
laughing and being goofy, playing her guitar, and, of course, hanging
out with the love of her life, her dog, Diego.
ATVN positions and duties: reporter, producer.. those were the big two.
How did ATVN prepare you for your current job?
Wow where do I begin. It taught me to do everything from writing to editing… the whole bit under a deadline.. It gives you a good picture of what a real newsroom is like. so get involved…
What is your advice to aspiring journalists?
learn to work hard and fast… and never take no for an answer.
What are the top three skills college journalism students should be working on in order to be prepared for their first broadcasting job?
writing, voice, on air presence.
What is the most important thing a college journalist should know when he or she is trying to negotiate his or her first job?
Negotiate.. Haha that is funny… Most of the time there is no such thing. Make sure the city you are going to is a place you will be happy at. That’s about your only negotiating tool i.e. who you tell yes. Try to get an out but don’t count on it.
What prepared you most for your current job?
Internships.
