What is your advice to aspiring journalists?
Hone your story-telling ability - the delicate art of being a mouthpiece on behalf of the ones you magnify. Be creative, be truthful, be authentic.
What are the top three skills college journalism students should be working on in order to be prepared for their first broadcasting job?
Be a learner - great journalists are seasoned learners; be a student of the world. Practice - write everyday. Develop a love for people - as a journalist, you are responsible to humanity to represent truth.
What is the most important thing a college journalist should know when he or she is trying to negotiate his or her first job?
Humility mixed with boldness. You can’t convince someone else of your talent if you are not convinced yourself.
