Bio:

You can catch Rich on TV in the LA area on KCAL 9 News at 8, 9 and 10 PM. His nightly “Tech Check” keeps you connected to the digital lifestyle - with a quick take on the coolest new websites, gadgets, viral videos and other stories to make you sound smart around the water cooler.

Prior to joining the CBS family, Rich was a host for the technology website CNET TV. His show, “The Queue” was a fast and fun way to keep up with everything digital. Rich also served as a regular tech expert for various networks and shows, including CNBC, NBC Today Show, ABC News Tech Bytes, Fox News Channel, the BBC and more.

Rich was previously a reporter with Channel One News, a daily newscast shown in middle and high schools nationwide. Before that, he was a reporter for media outlets across the country including the San Diego ABC affiliate, and NBC affiliates in Washington and Louisiana. He spent three years as a consumer reporter, helping viewers protect themselves from scams like identity theft and phishing.

Rich is originally from New Jersey.

How did ATVN prepare you for your current job?

Most of my instructors were currently working in the business or had worked there before, so they could give some great insight into how the real world operates.

What is your advice to aspiring journalists?

Be prepared for a journey - it’s going to be a bit rough at the beginning, and challenging throughout but it should always be fun.

What are the top three skills college journalism students should be working on in order to be prepared for their first broadcasting job?

Writing, Shooting and Enterprising ideas.  Embrace the web - it’s the future!

What is the most important thing a college journalist should know when he or she is trying to negotiate his or her first job?

Keep a good attitude about things and be prepared to work hard!

What prepared you most for your current job?

Internships and working at the newspaper, radio and TV stations in college.
