Congress voted 261-161 today to pass a bill that would limit the distribution of driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants. Under the bill, immigrants would still be able to obtain driving permits but they would not be able to use those permits as a federal form of identification. Republicans say the September 11 hijackers used driver’s licenses to board the planes they crashed into the world trade center. Officials say the bill will help to track terrorists in the United States. |
