Detainee Released

One of the last two U.S. missionaries jailed in Haiti was released today. The group’s leader is still in custody.

Haitian authorities released one of the last two U.S. Baptist missionaries today, in custody for trying to take orphans out of the country after the earthquake.

Charisa Coulter was arrested with nine other Americans on Jan. 29 while trying to leave Haiti with 33 children without proper documents.

The group said they were trying to help the children after the earthquake, but Haitian officials arrested the Idaho missionaries because they alleged the group was trying to kidnap the children.

Eight of the other missionaries had already been released. The group’s leader, Laura Silsby, is still in custody.

ATVN covered the missionaries’ arrest here.
