Grant Tunkel is a senior at USC, double majoring in broadcast journalism and international relations. He was born and raised in New York.
He has worked at ATVN for eight semesters, starting as a camera operator during the Fall 2006 semester and working in the newsroom after that. This semester, he returns to the studio as the Monday sports anchor. While a member of the news team, Grant has been a graphics artist, video journalist and worked in the sports department.
Outside of ATVN, he is the Sports Director of KSCR, USC’s student radio station. He has called play-by-play and color of football, basketball and baseball for KSCR, as well as served as one of the baseball play-by-play broadcasters for USCTrojans.com. Grant has also written for The Daily Trojan for eight semesters and currently writes a column, Thrilla on Manila Paper, which runs every other Friday.
In the past, Grant has interned at CSTV.com (now CBSCollegeSports.com) as a writer. This past summer, he was the lead play-by-play voice for the Bourne Braves of the Cape Cod Baseball League, and was able to see Bourne win its first championship since 1965.
When Grant isn’t in the newsroom or involved in various other journalistic endeavors, he enjoys playing golf with friends, listening to music and playing guitar. And of course, watching his teams: the New York Mets, Jets, Rangers, Knicks; the USC Trojans; and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
