Marcelo Figueroa is a junior majoring in Broadcast Journalism and Psychology. This will be his third year as an ATVN staff member. He previously worked as a sports department volunteer and is currently training to be Sports Director next year for ATVN Sports.
Over the past two years, Marcelo has been gaining valuable experience in the ATVN newsroom. Although his passion is for sports, he has worked in the newsroom as an assignment desk volunteer and writer/shooter/editor. Marcelo also had many valuable experiences with ATVN sports, including covering women’s volleyball, women’s water polo, and USC football.
Marcelo got hands-on experience in the newsroom by interning with Fox College Sports, a channel through the Fox network. He worked over the summer as an assistant in their programming department, helping them decide what to air over the summer, and also wrote articles for their website.
Marcelo is from Carson, California, which is home to both IKEA and the Home Depot Center. Despite being from Southern California, he is not a Dodger fan. He is a strong supporter of the Cincinnati Reds (because of Ken Griffey Jr.) and the San Francisco 49ers (tied with 2 other teams with 5 Super Bowl championships, but the only team to never lose a Super Bowl). Outside of sports he enjoys poker (everything except getting outdrawn), Meerkat Manor, and long walks on the beach.
