Show Some Support

By Jeremy Hall

With the #4 Trojan football team on the road in Tucson this weekend, USC fans should have no excuse not to go out and support their other fellow Trojan athletes.  That’s right.  That means going to support the Women of Troy’s soccer team as well as the ultra-competitive women’s volleyball team.  It’s time to spread the Trojan love around, especially since these teams are competing just as hard and for national championship just as our beloved Pete Carroll coached football team.

The Women’s Soccer team, check that…the NATIONAL CHAMPION Women’s Soccer are in action tomorrow night against cross-town rival UCLA.  They are attempting to break the single-game record for attendance, and have moved their game from McAllister Field to the exact location where the USC football team plays every home game, The Coliseum.  Lets make that happen Friday night!  Last year’s squad did what Pete Carroll and his football team did back in 2002.  Nobody expected Coach Ali Khosroshahin to win the NCAA Championship in just his first season similar to no one expecting the Carson Palmer led 2002 to go 11-2 in just Carroll’s second season with the Trojans.  So far this year, it’s looking like they could make a run at back-to-back titles.

The Women’s Volleyball team has only missed the post-season tournament 3 times the last 24 years, equally as impressive as the football team’s 6 straight BCS Bowl appearances.  Coached by Mick Haley, the team lacks a senior leader, but has plenty of talent to overcome the experience factor.  Led by Jessica Gysin and freshman phenom Alex Jupiter, the team is looking to make back-to-back runs to the Final Four.  It has already been seen at a couple of home matches this year, against Ohio State and UCLA, where the team plays a lot better when Trojan fans come out and rock the Galen Center.  They seem to be a more confident bunch because they have fans to play for, in addition to fans cheering for them.

So lets go out and support ALL of our Trojan athletes.
