Welcome to the Big Game

By Jeff Platt

First off, thanks for reading the first sports blog post of the semester!!!  I’m really looking forward to talking sports here on our revamped website.

Let me introduce myself briefly…my name is Jeff Platt, and I’m ATVN Sports Director this year.  I’ll be sports anchor on Mondays this semester as well.  I’ve been absolutely thrilled to have so many great opportunities over the last couple of years covering all kinds of USC Sports.  I also like to play poker…

Ok that was good enough, let’s get on to our first blog topic of the semester…the Super Bowl.  The biggest event in sports, the highest-rated TV event of the year, a perfect season on the line…it all adds up—I should be verrrryyyy interested, right?  No sir, no ma’am…sorry.  I sense a HUGE amount of interest on the East Coast—which makes sense obviously.  But the prospect of a game with a 12-pt favorite doesn’t thrill me too much.

It seems all I’ve heard over the last few weeks are “hey the Giants played ‘em close in Week 17 of the regular season”.  There was absolutely NO PRESSURE on the Giants then.  They had a chance to shock the world, and if they didn’t—hey, they were in the same spot in the playoffs as before.  I’d have a hard time believing you if you said the Giants could play even better than their Week 17 contest, and an even harder time believing you if you said the Pats could NOT play any better.

All the pressure in the world is now on both teams, but we’ve seen the Patriots come through in the clutch…they win this one big-time to complete the perfect season.

And now I’m not sure why I even gave my prediction since I don’t care too much anyway!!!

Thx for reading
-Jeff
