Many USC students said they didn't hear about shooting through Trojans Alert, but rather social media sites like Facebook and Twitter.

DPS Captain Carlisle admitted that it took Trojans Alert almost 24 minutes to notify students of the inncident. However, he also notes that Trojans Alert reach 60,000 people--all of whom had to sign up for the calls, emails and texts.

Many students failed to sign up for the service, Carlisle noted, and said this is why they found out about the shooting the following morning.

Still, students said that the alerts could have been sent out earlier, and with more important content.
