Jump Rope Record
Harlem Globetrotters Nathaniel “Big Easy” Lofton and Herbert “Flight Time” Lang are helping local elementary school students try to break the Guinness World Record for “The Most People Jumping/Skipping Rope at the Same Time.”
The event is part of Jamba Jump Day and celebrates the 80th anniversary of California Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance’s (CAHPERD).
Lofton and Lang joined more than 700 Fremont Elementary School students this morning for a simultaneous jump with schools and businesses from Sacramento to San Diego.
Today's attempt was seen through a live webcast. Organizers hope as many as 80,000 people participated. Guinness will release the official count next month.
Australia holds the current record with a jump that involved 59,000 people.
Jamba Jump Day is sponsored by CAHPERD, Jamba Juice, American Heart Association’s Jump Rope for Heart Campaign, and the California Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports “Governor’s Challenge” Program.
